George Redpath's signature in Newham parish register on his wedding day 17 May 1807
Jane Pile's mark in the Newham parish register on her wedding day 17 May 1807. It was quite normal at that time for females to be unable to write.
The spelling 'Pile' was used at the wedding while the alternative 'Pyle' was used for most of her children's christening entries in the parish register. MyRoots uses the convension of allocating the first spelling used.
On the parish record entry for her second son George, Jane Pile was said to be a 'native of Boursidian Parish of Ellingham'. Ellingham is a neighbouring parish to Newham. Both parishes are in Northumberland just south of Holy Island. George was their sixth child as well as being their second son.
Thomas' entry in the parish register states that he was the eighth child and fourth son of George Redpath.
