The history of the John Greensitt's family

John was born on 12 May 1856 in Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne. His father George was a ship wright at the time of his birth.

John and Sarah Jane were married at the register office in Gateshead on 21 October 1878. The two witnesses of the marriage were Sarah's elder brother Thomas and sister Margaret. According to the 1881 census, Sarah also had four younger sisters. By 1881, her father was a widower.

At the time of their wedding, John's father was a boat builder whereas Sarah's father was an assistant overseer at a coal mine.

Three years after their wedding, John and Sarah were living at Close Head, Stella, Durham and already had two children.

The Ibison family lived in Back Street, Winlacton, Durham. There were two other Ibison living in Winlacton at that time. One of these families was almost certainly related to Sarah's family, as this family's head was born in Carlisle, that same place as Sarah's father.
