Francis and Mary were married on 8 June 1758 at Pulham St Mary the Virgin church. Francis came from the village of Fressingfield about ten miles south of Pulham. The banns for the wedding were called at Fressingfield on three Sundays: 21 May 1758, 28 May 1758 and 4 June 1758.
No Mary Barber was found in either Pulham St Mary the Virgin or Pulham Mary Magdelane parish registers. The Pulham Mary Magdelane registers have been badly damaged by water and parts are unreadable. There was one family that might have been Mary's but although the surname looked similar to 'Barber' it could easily have been 'Barker'. There were a couple of children but no Mary although she could have been in the unreadable pages. However, it is quite likely that the family had moved to Pulham after Mary was born. Indeed there were Mary Barber's baptised in Wingfield on 8 July 1741 and in Fressingfield on 6 January 1743.
After the marriage, the couple lived in Fressingfield where their first son was baptised in 1759. Their first daughter, Mary, was baptised the following year.
