Edwin and Hannah married in 1842. At the time of his wedding, Edwin was a 35 year old wheelwright and his bride was a 22 year old servant. Edwins' father Philip was a blacksmith, while Hannah's father George was a farmer.
According to the 1881 census, Edwin had his wife and three daughters living with him:
Edwin DUTSON 66 Head Gardener Hannah DUTSON 67 Wife Gardener Wife Annie DUTSON 19 Daughter Domestic Housewife Emma DUTSON 12 Daughter Scholar Jane DUTSON 10 Daughter Scholar
It is quite common in census returns to have incorrect details concerning age.
When Edwin married Hannah in 1848 he gave his occupation as a wheelwright. Ten years later on his daughter Mary Emma's birth certificate he said he was a farmer. By 1881 he had become a gardiner but then when his daughter Mary Emma married in 1885 he said he was a wheelwright again.
